Wii Want Cricket

I know I sure as hell would love to see a cricket game on the Nintendo Wii. The Wii has been getting an absolute thrashing at my place and this would be just another sweet game to add to my library.

Gears of War

I got my greasy paws on Gears of War Monday (thank you Dicksmith for breaking the embargo) and have been giving it a right thrashing over the last couple of days…

Oh my god this game is brilliant.

There was a fuckload of hype surrounding this game as the ‘Game of the Year’, ‘Must Have Title for XBOX 360′ and the very ambitious ‘Best Looking Game Ever’ and ‘Best Game Ever’

I am happy to advise that this game wins everything hands down.

While this game doesn’t revolutionize the way people game it does provide a very fulfilling gaming experience that will have me going straight back to the beginning once I have finished it to play it all again.

One of the main highlights besides the drop dead gorgeous graphics (I was running down a flight of stairs and had to stop and look at the walls as I could see the paint peeling. The textures are amazing.) is that at any time in the game a friend can ‘drop in’ and play with you in a co-op mode which makes playing the game even more fun. You and your friend will be barking orders at each other while providing covering fire so you can flank the enemy and progress through the game.

I also enjoy the covering aspect of the game. You cannot go all guns blazing and if you do you will be dead in about 15 seconds. Cover and timing are key in this game and this carries over to multiplayer too. Gone are the fucking annoying games such as Halo where everyone is jumping around and shooting everywhere. That’s not war and it’s not fun either. Trying to hold your position and take out your opponent in a close combat where stealth and surprise are key is fun.

There are a couple of annoying (very little) issues with Gears of War but they are trumped ten fold by all the sheer awesomeness that this game delivers.

Best game I have played in a very very long time.

Doom!

Sweet! Doom is now available on the XBOX Live Marketplace for 800 points (AUD $13.20)! It includes Co-op and Deathmatch play which will be awesome! I remember playing this game on my very very very old 33Mhz (I think) PC many years ago and every time I shot a bullet the PC would have to work overtime.

Lumines Live!

Woo Hoo! Lumines Live! is finally making it’s way to the XBOX 360!
It’ll be available on XBOX Live Arcade from the 6th of September 2006.

And to think I was ‘this close’ to getting a PSP…!

Texas Hold ‘em

Word is that Texas Hold ‘em will be available on XBOX Live Arcade from the 16th of August 2006.
Should be some fun and late nights had with this one!

Street Fighter II’ Hyper Fighting

Available on XBOX Live Arcade August 2nd 2006

Clickity

ein un one um uno!

The world’s favourite family card game UNO is now available on the XBOX Live Marketplace for a very fetching 400 points.

Had a quick couple of games with MrLagmer and SAvaGE888 last night and boy howdie did it get intense! It’s such a great game!

I’m a little bemuzed that I’ve got a next gen console and my favourite games are UNO and HexicHD which are both tiny little games that cost $6.00! To top it off people are hanging out for Street Fighter to be available on Live Arcade! Come on! This game is like 10 years old!

Either way it’s awesome, it looks great on my HD Plasma and I’m as happy as pig in poo surrounded by piggy bitches who all want a piece of my bacon.

Game on!

PS3 @ E3

Looks like the Sony PS3 will cost at least $800.00 in Australia whenever they release it… The US get it in November for about US$600. Ouch!

You gotta remember that you’ll want another controller, some games, whatever ‘Online’ subscription fee, rechargeable batteries and the list goes on!

This is easilly going to be a $1500+ console at the end of the day and personally I don’t see any real reason to get excited by it.

I’ll post updates later on in the day if I can find time.

edit: forgot to factor in GST, shipping and PAL technology so the PS3 will more probably be $999.00.

Also the controler has no ‘DualShock’ or vibrations due to Sony getting sued over the PS2. However it looks like it has ripped off the ‘motion sensing’ controls from the Nintendo Wii and what also looks like the center button that is on the current XBOX360 controllers.
Saw some of the videos for their next gen games and nothing more than the XBOX360 is already doing from what I could see which is a little disappointing.

I’ll try and dig up last years ‘promises’ from Sony in regards to the PS3 and compared to what came out today it’s a major let down (the PS2 was the same) and looks good for the likes of Nintendo and Microsoft who are taking the stage at E3 tomorrow.

I feel a little sorry for the people waiting for the PS3 as today was a let down. Pretty lame me thinks…

One Week Later

We’ve been playing the XBOX 360 for just over a week now and hot doggity this is by far the best console ever!

At the moment the games are alright (as you’d expect for initial games on a new console) they look good, play fast, but the real awesomeness is in the connectivity.

Wireless controllers have been around for ages however now they have been done right. Simple to connect, automatically saves battery when not in use, the ability to power on and off the console (thank god!), connections for headset, and awesome range (i’m able to work around the house while still trash talking over XBOX Live). 10 outta 10

XBOX Live is worth every penny, letting you play online, view other gamers playing, talk, gamercards, interaction with xbox.com. It’s all just too awesome! In fact I’ve got all of my friends gamercards on my desktop (via Active Desktop) so I am able to keep track of their achievements as it happens. All too good for the geekieness in me.

Taking a page from the old XBOX modding community, the 360 has built in media functions which are pretty close to perfect. No .avi support is expected but a bit of a let down. I’m guessing it’s only a matter of time before this is ‘fixed’. My 360 is acting as a Media Center Extender with my main PC for watching TV and the such. It’s also streaming all of my 50GB+ of music from iTunes that lives on my iMac thanks to an awesome piece of software called Connect360, it also does my photos from iPhoto.

All in all I’ve been playing this bad boy (I need to think of a name for it) whenever I get a spare moment (sorry Hels) and still I need to find more time!

This is just way to cool, all I need now is a decent TV…

Where There’s A Will

It’s been a little quiet on the XBOX 360 modding scene for quite a while due to Microsoft learning from their mistakes and putting in some pretty good security to stop people from modding it.

Until now…

Over the last couple of days someone has been able to hack the DVD drive firmware so that it bypasses the security check done by the XBOX 360 firmware and allow you to play ‘backed up’ games.

This is a pretty good mod as for the time being it seems that it is hard to tell if the mod has been applied and will still let you use XBOX Live. The question is, is there a way Microsoft can counter this? Some people are saying no but I guess time will tell.
