Fable 2: First Impressions

Posted by: Gavin In: Geek it up!| Reviews| Video Games

fable2Due to a small error by a couple of retailers Fable 2 broke its street date and went on sale for about half a day before being taken back off the shelves. Apparently there are still some stores selling but it appears to be a bit hit and miss. I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and pick up a copy on my lunch break and seeing that Fable 2 will be available for the masses later this week I thought I’d post a quick first impressions on this highly anticipated game.

XBOX and DRM Transfers

Posted by: Gavin In: Geek it up!| Video Games

If you’re one of the 16% percent of XBOX 360 owners who have had to replace their console due failure you would understand my frustration where all of the content (map packs, arcade titles) I had bought from the XBOX Live Marketplace became unplayable when not connected to the internet and signed into XBOX Live.

The reason for this is due to Microsoft’s crippling DRM (Digital Rights Management) and not taking into account that a significant amount of their users have had to replace (Microsoft call it upgrading) their console.

Get ready to shit yourself again

Posted by: Crazyman In: Video Games

Get ready to cry like a little baby because the shit scare that is Condemned 2: Bloodshot will be released on the 360 next week. The first game was released way back during the xbox 360’s launch & featured the protagonist Ethan Thomas on the trail of a demented serial killer.

While the initial story was pretty simple things quickly got more complicated after you start to unravel the strands of a paranormal conspiracy that lead to a number of different endings. I don’t want to spoil things too much, but it left many questions unanswered & Ethan in a sorry state of affairs. It’s a shame that this game slipped under most peoples radars, because I found it to be the most atmospheric horror FPB (First Person Basher) that I’ve ever played.

Just in time for St Patrick’s Day the good people at Guitar Hero have announced that they will be releasing a special Dropkick Murphys song pack for Guitar Hero 3 consisting of master tracks of ‘Famous for Nothing’, (F)lannigan’s Ball’ and ‘Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya’

As a lot of you readers are fans of Dropkick Murphys this will be great news to you all. But the best part is still to come… the price for this kickass collection? Nothing! It’s going to be free baby! Woo!

So stock up on beers, put on your jigging boots and get ready to rock.

Videogame of the year nominations

Posted by: Crazyman In: Best of 2007| Video Games

I should start off by saying this ‘Best Of’ title is a bit of a misnomer as I won’t be covering PC games because I think their days are numbered. Also since the PS3 didn’t have many exclusive titles in it’s first years release and as most games are becoming multi platform now days I will be focusing on games from the xbox360. I will however list other platform releases in the nominees list, so feel free to let me know if I’ve left out your favorites.

Gavin *heart* EB Games

Posted by: Gavin In: Ego| Video Games

I posted last night (link) about how my XBOX 360 (which I bought at launch) died suddenly presenting me with the ‘Red Ring of Death”

I had for whatever reason at launch got sucked into purchasing the ‘extended warrantee’ (read drop pants and let me take advantage of you) from EB Games.

Although after almost two years and laughing at both Fu and Doug (both of which have had 360’s die on them) Karma had its way and decided my number was up and took the one thing I loved (sorry Hels) away from me in the form of a Red Ring.

1000 GP in 2 minutes

Posted by: Gavin In: Video Games

So here’s a Monday morning fun one for you which I know our resident Gamer Point Whore Stu will love.

Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Burning Earth has the easiest achievements ever where you can get the full 1000 points in around 2 minutes.

Personally I think it’s a joke where games like Guitar Hero makes you work bloody hard for the points and even then good luck getting all of them. Do we need to have a tribunal set up to monitor how games dish out the points and try to keep it uniform…?

Midday midweek update

Posted by: Crazyman In: Gigs| Shout Out!| Video Games

Hi all,

As there’s a lot going on this week I thought I would write a little wrap up of some events coming our way.

Starting off on a reminder that the Bodyjar gig is coming up this Friday @ Rubies. If you’ve read my previous post (clicky) then you’ll know that Blueline Medic will also be supporting the jar so this is looking to be one hell of a night. For the pennies crew that are interested in going please leave a comment or send me a message to let me know as i’ll picking up tickets in the city tomorrow. Its a bargain at only $18 so make sure to get your arse down to Belgrave for Bodyjar’s last Melbourne gig of the year.

Achievement Unlocked

Posted by: Gavin In: Video Games

Above is one of the best (and easiest) achievements from the new Simpsons game on the XBOX 360.

Receiving a somewhat respectable 7.7 from IGN (linky) this should keep Stu our resident ‘Achievement Whore’ happy.
