365 Days

My 12″ PowerBook died (may you rest in peace ‘Pete’) so I promptly replaced him with ‘Black Betty’ my shiny matte new MacBook. I loved the size and style of ‘Pete’ but a brand spanking Intel processor a couple of GB’s of RAM and all the other treats that ‘Betty’ has to offer has made the mourning period rather brief.

As with all new Macs ‘Betty’ comes with an inbuilt iSight and I thought I should do something with it so following in the footsteps of Raj and many others I’ve decided to take one photo a day for the next 365 days.

Below is Day 1:

So I started to watch Fully Flared and popped the disc into my XBOX 360 and was greeted with the image above.

For those who haven’t had the pleasure of visiting me at ‘The Lodge’ I have the exact same TV as the one pictured which caused my brain to turn to shit as I saw two TVs, one inside of the other.

That is all.

Gavin *heart* EB Games

I posted last night (link) about how my XBOX 360 (which I bought at launch) died suddenly presenting me with the ‘Red Ring of Death”

I had for whatever reason at launch got sucked into purchasing the ‘extended warrantee’ (read drop pants and let me take advantage of you) from EB Games.

Although after almost two years and laughing at both Fu and Doug (both of which have had 360′s die on them) Karma had its way and decided my number was up and took the one thing I loved (sorry Hels) away from me in the form of a Red Ring.

I was shattered but slightly optimistic at the possibility of exchanging my old and floored console for a newer model which included HDMI, better cooling and a smaller chipset.

Walking into EB Games this afternoon I was cautious and guilty at the possible chance of taking advantage of their extended warrantee and getting a free upgrade to a better console.

Greeting the young service attendee at the counter I was already thinking of my excuses as to why he must give me a new console and not one of the refurbished ones out back.

‘What’s wrong?’ he asked.

‘My XBOX is dead’ I replied.

‘Fair enough, let me get you a new one’ he quickly replied.

‘What?!’ I thought to myself. Where is the Spanish Inquisition? Are you going to run any tests on my console?

Before I could finish those thoughts our young attendant had returned with a brand new XBOX Arcade pack under his arm and proceeded to cut it open.

Within a matter of seconds he had handed me a brand new console which included HDMI and wished me better luck with my new console.

It was a easy as that? I was shocked and amazed. The company I had grown to hate for taking advantage of its customer and ridiculous prices had not only been efficient and helpful but asked no questions in the process.

So I have now ended up with a shiny new console that has HDMI, is a fuck load quieter and cooler than my previous console.

If I could I would climb to the highest rooftop and yell my unconditional love for EB Games who have looked after me but you know I have games to play so maybe next time…

my ring is red

More Threads

Just bought a couple of new Tees from our friends at Threadless as they are still having their $10.00 Christmas sale. Head on over and pick one up for yourself, just as long as it’s not one of these or these!

Happy Birthday Me!

24 yesterday and now 25 today… another year gone and loving every minute of it.

Cheers,

i wanna be somebody!

i’m a very indecisive person 99% 90% 95% of the time where i either cannot make up my mind or once i’ve made a decision i wish it was the ‘other’

this happened to me on the weekend in making a purchase for my birthday present from me to me. i was set on one option had to wait a minute and within that minute my mind had changed. in the end i just had to go with a gut / reflex instinct where i ended up purchasing the item that i liked ‘at that momemt’

anyway something that has bothered me for a long time is my gamertag on xbox live. a gamertag is your id to the gaming world and everwhere i look on xbox live i see sweet gamertags that are original and interesting.

i have already changed my gamertag from liptonrod to the current igav and want to change it again to the ‘ultimate gamertag’ that fits me.

seeing that i can’t make decisions and am also a rather unimaginative being i would like to throw it out there to the general public to suggest a suitable gamertag for me.

leave a comment with your suggestions and hopefully a nugget of gold will be polished and left waiting for me to pick it up and make it my own.

cheers

The Hard Road

So I’ve been going to the gym over the last month, and when I say “go” I mean if I’ve been more than say maybe once or twice a week it’s been a pretty good effort which in reality is actually a pretty shitty effort.

To try an combat this and also gain some results (fingers crossed) I have enlisted the help of a personal trainer and this morning was my first session.

I didn’t realize that the sole purpose of a personal trainer is to serve your ass up on a plate and make you wish you were dead.

I had my ass kicked from here to Tiananmen Square.

But hopefully with the help of my trainer and also making an effort to eat and live more healthily I’ll be able to shed some of the weight and get into some shape that doesn’t resemble a salad dodger.

I’ll keep you posted…

Any update’s a good update right?

iiNet have just completed the construction of their DSLAM in the exchange where I happen to be located and it looks like migration will take place in the 4th week of September which is about a month away. I am not very close to the exchange but at the same time not too far away either so fingers crossed for some decent speeds. Anything is better than what I’ve currently got and I would kill to have some speedy uploads again. I had ADSL2+ at ’The Lodge’ and going back to 1500/254kbps was a kick in the guts but I guess all I can do now is wait…

Forward To Hunt

Hey how’s it all going? It’s 4:08pm Friday afternoon, I’m tired and have a sore foot. I always find the last few hours of a Friday to just drag on like a bitch and the fact that I’m not doing any work doesn’t help either…
Work is going really well. It gets busy when it wants to but now that I’ve settled into the role it’s cruising rather well with no real dramas which means I can’t really complain so I won’t.
I will complain about my Media Center though, as it’s being a pain in the ass.
I wanted a nice quiet case to replace the large jet engine sounding case that I’ve currently got so I went and bought an Antec OvertureII which is pretty sweet. Nice and slim so it now lives in the TV cabinet, heaps quieter and looks alright too. As I already had a guilty conscious and already coughing up hard earned green for the case I decided to purchase a legit copy of XP Media Center 2005. Oh and shout out to the people over at www.digitalyes.com.au who shipped my order in under 24 hours. Cheers
So I’ve put everything together and test OK. Install XP Media Center and that’s alright too. Updated to the new Nvidia video drivers and they are awesome! No more fucking around with a billion settings to have your video card output correctly to your TV. Just select the display as a TV and 1080i or 720p (whatever suits best) as the resolution and bingo bango you’re done! I really liked that.
What I am having a fuckload of trouble with is my tuner card and getting a decent signal and picture for TV. It’s driving me (and I’m sure Hels but she’s awesome and puts up with my constant ‘tweaking’ and swearing at the TV) nuts as I know that it works seeing that I have ha it working perfectly before.
Hopefully tonight I will have it all sorted as it seems to be getting there ever so slowly but I have a deadline to meet which is 6:30pm Saturday as Funniest Home Videos is on…
Anyway so it’s now 4:21pm and the weekend is getter ever so closer but my foot still hurts and I need a nap.
I’m not sure what is planned for the weekend yet, but I’d be happy with just kickin back having a few brews.
If the weather permits I wouldn’t mind dusting of the BBQ and burning some meat. If I do I’ll let ya know.
