We welcome back Fu and Raj to the podcast and we cover a mixed bag of geeky goodness:

  • XBOX NXE is good. PS3 Home not so much.hp
  • Apple releases 10.5.6 and we finally get to play a stable game of Chess.
  • We’re tempted to install OS X on the MSI Wind.
  • Steve Jobs gives MacWorld a wide berth but we still expect new Mac Minis.
  • We want Hulu but enjoy ABC’s iView
  • Oh yeah and something about Stu being a dad… Congrats!

A BetaMaXmas

Posted by: Gavin In: Random Stuff| TV

screen-capture

Christmas is that special time of the year where you get to watch bad Christmas movies like The Santa Clause, A Mom For Christmas and I’ll Be Home For Christmas (JTT FTW) at all times of the day. Add to this reruns of every ‘Christmas Edition’ TV show and I’m in heaven.

So I was very extremely happy to find a site that lets me do this all year round and especially at work!

Enter BetaMaXmas where you are transported to a 1980ish basement where the only things on TV are Christmas themed shows. Everything from He-Man, Sesame Street, Pee Wee Herman, Married With Children only to name a few…

It’s a Trap!

Posted by: Gavin In: Shout Out!

This post was originally going to be a rant but I think it shall be more of a community service announcement.

While I was perusing mininova I noticed something a little strange. A number of torrents tagged as an axxo release were all of the same size 722.52MB.

Not only were these releases of the same size they were also DVD rips of movies that have just come out in the cinemas in the US.

It was pretty clear that something was a little suss and from a quick search it was found that these torrents were fake and planted by the MPAA in a bid to collate the IP addresses of pirates (argh!)

Fable 2: First Impressions

Posted by: Gavin In: Geek it up!| Reviews| Video Games

fable2Due to a small error by a couple of retailers Fable 2 broke its street date and went on sale for about half a day before being taken back off the shelves. Apparently there are still some stores selling but it appears to be a bit hit and miss. I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and pick up a copy on my lunch break and seeing that Fable 2 will be available for the masses later this week I thought I’d post a quick first impressions on this highly anticipated game.

Triumph meets David Blaine

Posted by: Gavin In: Random Stuff

A classic piece of Triumph the Insult Dog where he takes on David Lame Blaine.

I have no idea how this douche can call himself a magician but I can understand how Triumph is considered a comic genius.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Posted by: Gavin In: Movies

It looks like Kevin Smith is back to making decent films. Some people may be getting Seth Rogen overload but I’m still enjoying it all. Check out the trailer for Zack and Miri Make a Porno and let me know if your looking forward to it.

That Drum Playing Gorilla

Posted by: Gavin In: Random Stuff

If you’re going to have a Gorilla drumming to Phil Collins to try and sell your product consider me sold.

Not only is this a Gorilla playing drums but it’s playing one of the best drums intros ever.

After doing a quick Google search I found that this is actually an advertising campaign from the UK dating back to 2007… go have a read over at Wikipedia for more.

Blur: The Best of (youtube)

Posted by: Gavin In: Music

During the 90s there was a little thing called Britpop that came out of the UK. At the forefront of the Britpop invasion were Pulp, Oasis and Blur.

Now this isn’t going to a history lesson (I just don’t have the time) but if you do have a moment go read up on Oasis vs Blur (wiki link) and Britpop (wiki link) in general. It’s great reading and a little Britpop should be part of any music lovers music collection.

Blur are my band of choice closely followed by Oasis but Blur were just so damn interesting and creative where Oasis were good at what they did and stuck to it like glue.
