There are certain things in life that piss me off. Bad drivers, people who jump the queue, red heads and the french for example.
Now I get to add Fosters and their iconic beer VB to the list.
In what can only be seen as a greedy money grabbing move, Fosters have announced that they are dropping the alcohol content of VB by 0.1% so that they are able to save around $20 million in taxes a year.
To add salt to the already gaping wound the wholesale price of beer will rise by 2%!
VB Spokesman Mr Ben Wicks has said that the excise savings would be reinvested in the brand, particularly the new VB Midstrength and the popular annual summer promotion featuring collectible figurines.
Let me get things straight here Ben…
- I don’t drink Midstrength beer. I always drink full strength. If I wanted to drink a poor excuse for a beer I would purchase VB Midstrength. If you’re going to drop the alcohol content in anything drop it from that.
- I buy and drink your beer to get drunk. Not to play with silly little promotional toys.
- You are a gigantic tool of a man Ben.
I announce a boycott on VB effective immediately and hopefully those wine drinking CEO pigs at Fosters will understand the slight error in judgement they have made and will correct this immediately.
And to all the other brewers and beers out there don’t take the stupid actions of Fosters as an excuse to follow suit. A full strength beer should be a minimum of 4.9% period. Anything less is a joke and making us pay more for it is an insult and kick to the nuts.

yeah!
man VB is the beer of the everyman, the beer that trendies spit on, wanna be trendies try to spit on and men comfortable with themselves love to drink. i don’t buy into this bullshit about VB being a bad beer, i don’t think there are any bad beers.
so now we have established what the typical VB drinker is like, lets move on to the changes proposed by Bed Dover.
1. lower the alcohol content
2. more promotional figurenes.
3. upping the price.
now lets analyse these changes based on what the typical VB drinker would think.
1. why the fuck would you lower the content? i drink to get drunk!
2. what the fuck am i going to do with a plastic doll? you can’t get drunk off it, unless you set it on fire and burn it
3. i drink VB because it tastes good and isn’t an expensive boutique beer. if i wanted to pay lots to get that VB taste i would drink crownies. and now its less alcoholic the price increase is going to be effectively even higher, as i’ll have to buy more!
i never thought VB would sell out. clearly i was wrong. i should have seen it coming after the boonies dolls, but i didn’t. i should have seen it after they released VB metro (midstrength), but i didn’t. there is no mistaking it now.
VB have sold out, and lost me as a customer.
I only disagree with one point. There are no bad beers? Not ture.
VB Mid now I am sure this would be a bad beer. Who would want to drink low alcohol beer and of all low alcohol beer why VB?
We all know that West End is totall shit and so is New.
alright fair point on low alcohol beers, but at the end of the day, beer is good. even westend will get me wasted, getting there will just be a little bit more of a struggle.
