Monthly Archive for March, 2006

fin

I’ve handed back the keys to the office, packed my shit and left the building.

Today was my last day at my current job before I start my new one on Monday.

We went out for drinks last night in Kew which was really good. Great to catch up with people and sink beers. Top night was had by all, even the commie had fun!

So I start my new position of Project Manager Monday and I’m really hangin out for it yet at the same time quietly shitting one’s pants.

It’s going to be a massive task and culture change from where I have been however with this opportunity it can only lead to even bigger and better things. That’s not saying that things aren’t great now, hell this new job is a zillion times better and I haven’t even started it yet! The people seem great, the work challenging, and the pay is a pleasent surprise.

All I gotta do is not fuck it up!

Bring on Monday!

One Week Later

We’ve been playing the XBOX 360 for just over a week now and hot doggity this is by far the best console ever!

At the moment the games are alright (as you’d expect for initial games on a new console) they look good, play fast, but the real awesomeness is in the connectivity.

Wireless controllers have been around for ages however now they have been done right. Simple to connect, automatically saves battery when not in use, the ability to power on and off the console (thank god!), connections for headset, and awesome range (i’m able to work around the house while still trash talking over XBOX Live). 10 outta 10

XBOX Live is worth every penny, letting you play online, view other gamers playing, talk, gamercards, interaction with xbox.com. It’s all just too awesome! In fact I’ve got all of my friends gamercards on my desktop (via Active Desktop) so I am able to keep track of their achievements as it happens. All too good for the geekieness in me.

Taking a page from the old XBOX modding community, the 360 has built in media functions which are pretty close to perfect. No .avi support is expected but a bit of a let down. I’m guessing it’s only a matter of time before this is ‘fixed’. My 360 is acting as a Media Center Extender with my main PC for watching TV and the such. It’s also streaming all of my 50GB+ of music from iTunes that lives on my iMac thanks to an awesome piece of software called Connect360, it also does my photos from iPhoto.

All in all I’ve been playing this bad boy (I need to think of a name for it) whenever I get a spare moment (sorry Hels) and still I need to find more time!

This is just way to cool, all I need now is a decent TV…

Boo Hoo

Jana Pittman is worried that the whole MCG will boo her out when she competes in her event tonight…

“She is an incredible athlete but her performance just depends on how the crowd treat her when she comes out into the stadium,” Rawlinson said yesterday.

“She is scared of hearing someone boo her. So I am just hoping everyone is behind her 100 per cent because she wants to run for them.”

“She has done an awful lot of crying,”

I’m no sports doctor but I didn’t think an ‘incredible athletes’ perfomance depended on how nice the crowd is. I thought it was all about how fucking fast you run because running fast is the key thing in winning this event.

So please Jana build a bridge, get over it and do what you gotta do.

Not everyone is going to like you so deal with it!

Booya!

Where There’s A Will

It’s been a little quiet on the XBOX 360 modding scene for quite a while due to Microsoft learning from their mistakes and putting in some pretty good security to stop people from modding it.

Until now…

Over the last couple of days someone has been able to hack the DVD drive firmware so that it bypasses the security check done by the XBOX 360 firmware and allow you to play ‘backed up’ games.

This is a pretty good mod as for the time being it seems that it is hard to tell if the mod has been applied and will still let you use XBOX Live. The question is, is there a way Microsoft can counter this? Some people are saying no but I guess time will tell.

1 Day to go!

Hello again people this will be my last post I would say as from 12:01 23/03 I will be playing or picking up my 360 so I will not have time to communicate with people. I would say most of the people who read this site will be playing 360. So what should I say about this great system today? Well I think all I can do is show you a pic of what one of the great games that is going to be out will look like the game is oblivion and if you have a girlfriend you better hope you are good looking because you won’t be spending any time with her if you get this game and if you don’t have the looks she not going to be hanging around.

6 Days to Go!

Hello again,

Yes only 6 more days and I will be playing Xbox 360 till I fall asleep. So what is today topic? Well today let’s talk no wires or wireless. Yes finally you won’t be tripping over the console or pulling the Xbox off its stand to get the controller closer to your chair the 360 has gone wireless for the controllers. Let me tell you this is pure genius you really can not beat playing from the comfort of your chair with no cable getting in the way and making the place a big mess. The controllers are a really good size I feel and look very nice. Also an excellent add on is the guide button on the controller you can use this to turn off the 360 COME ON! how many times have you been playing Xbox in bed and just want to turn your telly off and go to sleep but NOOOO you have to get up and turn it off well that is no more. Now I can hear you say ok stu but what happen when my great wireless controller runs out of power? Well yes this is always a problem with wireless god dam batteries but if this does happen during a major race or gaming session all that should happen is the 360 will pause you then plug in your plug and play charger (34.95) and away you go happy to keep playing. PS anyone who plans to come and play at my place but you don’t have a controller of your own you better bring some batteries as I only have one plug and play kit.

Ok that’s all from me see you all soon.

To Be A Whipping Boy

I watched the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games last night and I still can’t decide if it was any good or not.

I think at one stage I saw a koala cross human thing running around in a dirty pair of y-fronts.

The giant flying tram was pretty cool but from there it got a little weird.

It needed to be a little more ‘Melbourne’ I thought and what better way than borrowing from the AFL Grand Final performances! Do you remember the rather feminine looking guys in footy gear dancing provocatively with each other? Oh oh and what about Angry Anderson and the Batmobile! That would’ve put bums on seats!

Also there was no reference to stabbings which seem to be a very Melbourne thing to do these days.

Either way let me know what you thought and what you would have added to make it that little bit better.

On a side note, I’ve got a second interview for the job I went for last week so keep those fingers crossed for me will ya?!

Only a few more sleeps until Coheed and Cambria, XBOX 360 and my mega fatman lazy weekend!

9…8 Days to Go!

Hi Again me back for 9 and 8 days to go.

Could not post last night as went out to see kick ass band Taking Back Sunday and it was a fine show for a Monday night.

So 8 days to go that is not long at all. Today lets have a look at PG3 (Project Gotham Racing 3) this game looks to be one large reason to get a 360. In PG3 you get to compete in races and the good old cone challenges to win credits and Kudos that helps you get better cars and more tracks. The reason I wanted this game is for online play. You can play online career mode where people of equal skill are put into your race and you have to try and win. The game has a news ticker that will keep an eye for news you want to know like your good old rival beating your fastest lap time on your favorite track. You can log in and watch other races or watch your friend in action. This game Looks totally sweet but be warned to get the most out of this game you need HD screen and I know that is going to be hard for us to get because I have spent over $1000 on my 360 where am I going to get another $2000? Ah anyway this game rocks hard if you see it at a store go out and give it a spin it is fun fun fun.

In other 360 news it was announced that it is the biggest entertainment launch ever in Aus as it is going to put 35 – 40 Million in Bills pockets this out does the U2 tour, Harry Potter book, and Lord of the rings movie combined.

Ok rock on.

10 Days To Go!

Hello all,

Now you might think this countdown is for some sporting event like the comm bank games but alas no it is the countdown until me and Gav loose our girlfriends and we get our Xbox360. So for the next 10 days I will be doing a post a day to talk about my favorite subject the Xbox 360.

Today’s topic Live. Xbox Live is going to be a major factor in the xbox 360 being one of the great consoles. What is better then having 4 friends over to play the game multiplayer? Not much but what happens when it is midweek and your up for some gaming action? With Live you can jump on to your box check out who is online see what game they are playing, send them a message telling them you want to play some online gaming and meet up and play. You can then bag our your rival (As everyone will know gav is my rival) and whip some ass. You can check out how much of a certain game your friends have played so you can tell them how much better you are at it (not good for paul as he spends wayyy to much time trying to 100% a game) and have ultimate bagging out powers.

Well that’s it for today’s post see you tomorrow.

Xbox36010

You try waiting this long

Hi All,

This will be my last post/rant for a while until i get some cable internet at my NEW place.

Thats right Doug (a.k.a The Crazyman) is moving on. Out of my folks place (for the last time) and into my new pad. Feel free to drop by my unit in glen iris any time (Seriously whenever the fuck you want). Just listen for the loud punk music. There will always be some breskies in the fridge, icy cold waiting for ya.

Since i wont have the net for a while i guess ill miss out on stu’s crazy countdown on the Xbox 360.

Oh yeah, gav you stole the gyroscope title i was gonna give this post which was ‘i think im sweating blood’. Sorry bout the mixup last night for the gyroshow, as i wasnt very organised, and i ended up changing my mind too quickly. Glad to hear that you sold the tix. You should consider a career as a scalper as you sold them in record time. Anyway hope the show rocked. Actual course it did, its Bloody Gyro!
I guess i will be sweating blood during the move tommorow since its meant to be 32 degrees. I’ve gotta haul all my shit up 2 flights of stairs which is gonna suck.

Cant think of anything more to shoot the shit about so i guess ill just end with,

Move along (check it out its a great american rejects song)
