Dashboard Jesus

I am writing this post from the Dashboard of OSX ‘Tiger’ pretty sweet.

Waste of Mind

Well it’s been just over a week since my last confession. Thought I’d make up for it here , here , and here. Hope you’re all doing well and having a good time.
The last week has been pretty good really, nothing out of the ordinary during the week just work and a little more work. Someone resigned on Friday and looks like another two are close behind so I better get my shit together and head for the hills otherwise I’ll be stuck dealing with all of the shit. If anyone knows someone in the HR department of Optus can you tell them to get their shit together and fill the position they advertised a few weeks back? Cheers, I owe you one.
So it’s the end of the TV season in the US which means no more Scrubs , The OC and in a few days Lost. All great shows and I’m hanging out for the next seasons. If anyone knows of some other shows I should watch please let me know as I don’t want to get stuck watching the shit on the telly.
Right now Richmond are sitting a pretty 3rd on the AFL Premiership Ladder. I hopped the band wagon on Satday night to the Royal Oak in Richmond to see the Tigers get up over Brisbane. Was a good night with cheap beers, lots of people and a big screen for the action.
Richmond take on Melbourne this Friday at the Telstra Dome and will be a huge match seeing that Richmond will be going for 5 in a row against a team that is 4th on the ladder…
Something funny that happened on Satday night was that I got to speak to Dave O’Neil. For those who don’t know who Dave is he’s the “fat guy from the Pizza Hut ads”. Long story in how I got to speak to Dave but it was classic as I was pissed and he just being funny. It’s one for the grand kids. I’ve now had a few brushes with fame…
– I have urinated next to Harry Connick Jnr
– Seen Dave Grohl on the train (Paul and Matt will back me up on this)
– Gotten Greg Evans’ autograph
– Been embaressed infront of Magda Szubanski and Patty Newton (cheers Fu)

Animals, Politics and Dynamite

So I’ve been channel surfing on Channel BT (still going strong) the last few days and have stumbled accross some recommended viewing…
– Ricky Gervais has done two stand up shows one being ‘Animals’ and the other ‘Politics’. Most of you will know Ricky as David Brent from The Office and if you don’t then please get out from under your rock, take the cotton wool out of your ears , remove the blindfold and watch it. You can thank me later. Ricky’s stand up on both Animals and Politics had me crying and hurting from laughing so hard. I haven’t appreciated comedy like this since Chris Rock’s HBO specials. Please get your hands on them and watch if you’re a Ricky Fan or enjoy quick witty British humour.
– I went into watching Napoleon Dynamite a little cautious as word on the street was that this film was made by mormans. Not that I have anything against mormans, they’re happy jolly people with a message (don’t we all?) but should be kept within Salt Lake City and never let out. However this does not tarnish the film. In fact like a car crash I could not look away. The charcters are nothing but intriguingly boring. Genious. I loved it. I give it 3 thumbs up.

The Last Episode

So I’ve just seen the final installment of the Star Wars sixtology (it’s soooo a word and if it’s not then I just created one. You don’t control me!) and well yeah it’s pretty good and completes the whole Star Wars saga but why did they have to make Episodes I , II and III?
I haven’t seen the whole first episode just on true morals. I think I made it through about 20 minutes before I turned it off. I’m not here to watch a family movie.
The second episode wasn’t that much better. Sure there was heaps of carnage which made the movie watchable but still not hitting the mark. That movie was just a filler transitional movie to set up for the third episode.
And so the third episode is here and it’s not bad but who writes the dialog?! I was expecting Ridge from The Bold and The Beautiful to pop up somewhere. Too damn cheesy for my liking.
Anyway I could go one for ever about this but please Hollywood stop making sequals , prequals , marvel movies and movies based on video games or plain obvious remakes!
Has everyone run out of ideas?

Hip Hip Hooray!

The month of May seems to be the month of birthdays. In no particular order I would like to wish the following people a HUGE hornbag.net style shout out for their birthdays…
Matty , Stu , My Nona , Jamie , Pete , Lena , Mark , Evonne and good ol me!
I hope I haven’t left anyone off the list. If I did let me know and I’ll fix it up.
Happy Birthday!

23 Years Ago Today

It’s my birthday today and I am turning 23.

Channel BT

Well as of yesterday the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) has shut down 6 or so ‘Channel BT’ sites (link) and have released a statement on their site (link). This is the first time that the MPAA have targeted TV torrent sites.
The MPAA have shut down other sites previously that had been acting as trackers for movie releases and DVDs. The MPAA in their statement mention how they are wanting to work with the sites they shut down to provide a legal service like what was done with Napster. If you check the closed down sites you know see a pleasent message from the MPAA suggesting that “You Can Click But You Cannot Hide” real nice guys.
I can understand the pirating of movies as you have to pay to see them, however what can they find so bad about TV shows?

Seeing as networks get pre-paid through advertising. We have to remember, television is “free”. We dont have to pay for it! The MPAA is not allowing us to get something for free, where its already free in the first place!

If the MPAA are wanting to set up a ‘legal’ alternative they better get it right! Shit man look at Napster, sure it’s legal but it took iTunes to get it right.
Do I think they should be stopping people from downloading TV episodes? No. Does the MPAA want to stop people from downloading because they are not watching the ads? Maybe, then why isn’t the MPAA hunting down all of the Tivo users and Media Center users? They can copy TV and cut out the ads too.
Either way I think I’ve said this before but whatever doesn’t kill you just makes you stronger. There are other ways to get TV shows and there will always be ways. Don’t try to deny it because it’s already happened and will continue to do so.
If there was a service where I pay a subscription fee to download shows then I would probably consider it.
The MPAA needs to stop be reactive and start being proactive.

Weekend of the Tiger

Alright the weekend is almost at an end and I shall name this weekend the weekend of the Tiger.
I now have my own copy of Tiger and have just finished installing and restoring my files on the two Macs of the house. Tiger is awesome period. Spotlight is to Tiger what Expose was to Panther. Spotlight is worth the upgrade alone, you also get thrown in for good measure Dashboard , improved system performance and updated Mail , Safari and countless other tweeks and surprises. I won’t get into too much detail here because every man and his dog have reviewed Tiger so google away and have a read for yourself!
Right now the Richmond Tigers are sitting sweet in fourth position on the AFL ladder. I went and saw them demolish Carlton yesterday at the G and besides Carlton playing like poo Richmond seems to have it’s shit together and are playing like a top four team. I haven’t seen Richmond play this good football for a very long time. Since the start of the season Richmond has been improving in leaps and bounds. I’m really looking forward to seeing them take on Collingwood this Sunday as it should be a great match and Richmond should win quite easily but this football and anything can happen.
This week is pretty much the norm with work Monday to Friday. This Saturday is my birthday and I’ll turning 23. I won’t be celebrating my birthday that night as there is already another birthday party on. Kinda sucks because it’s not the other persons birthday that night but meh what can ya do. Should be alright anyway I guess. Spending Sunday with my family and really looking forward to that. I think it’s Stu’s birthday celebrations Friday night which should be good. Looks like being a very long weekend.

the pebble in my shoe

it’s been a little quiet round here and this is due to two things, 1. the MYSQL database fucked up and 2. i couldn’t be fucked posting anything.
i’m going to break this post down and try to cover off a few things happening in my life -
golf – haven’t been playing as much as i would like but got to fit in a quick nine on sunday with stu and fu. i was feeling confident and ready to go (this was probably due to the lack of alcohol consumed the night before) and even though my short game was letting me down my game in general was better especially off the tee with a couple of sweet drives , long fairway shots and some lucky recovery strokes. i think i’ll hit the driving range later this week to work on a couple of things and improve my game. would love to be hitting sub 100 in the near future. i’ll keep you updated on that…
geek – well tiger was unleashed to the world last friday and i am yet to buy my copy. i could download it but for once i actually feel like that would be the wrong thing to do. i have a lot of respect for apple and their products and buying tiger is the only way to go. hopefully i’ll have my dirty little hands on it soon!
been playing forza motorsport on the xbox and it’s not a bad game. i think it sits nicely just under gt4 as a great simulator without trying to be too real which takes away from the gameplay. the graphics are amazing and the online playing is just the icing on the cake. there aren’t as many cars than gt4 but there is damage and also extensive customization which can also be taken online which is pretty special.
thanks to stu i have now got an old pc for my file server (i shall call him filezilla) and after a little bit of work is running and dishing out files like no tomorrow! all i need now is a 250gb hard drive and i’ll be set.
work – is work. i go there i get paid and i come home. it’s not that work sucks it’s just that i’m not really enjoying it anymore and my motto in life is that ‘if it’s not fun then it’s not worth doing’ so i’m looking around for a new job. i’ve applied for a couple of positions and the applications have closed so i hope to hear something in the next week or so. i won’t tell you what the job is though… it’s a secret!
channel bt – currently the tv shows i watch each week are pimp my ride , scrubs , lost , the oc and now the new 4th season of family guy and from the family guy crew the 1st season of american dad. all of these shows are top notch at the moment and a must see in my opinion.
footy – go tigers and go richo! how sweet this season is at the moment. richmond is doing pretty well and collingwood, port adelaide and brisbane are not. probably won’t last for long so i’m going to enjoy it while i can.
